Welcome

JKweb

Thanks to support from Sponsors, Foundations, Regional Government and the local Municipality, together with an enthusiastic team of staff and partners, we can present the third LMISC – the great international singing competition for young Wagnerians.

A competition of this format will attract the world's attention, and it is with great pride and pleasure, that we observed the winner in 2010, Allison Denise Oakes, has since made her debut, with great success, in the Wagner Festival at Bayreuth.
The winner in 2014, Tiina-Maija Koskela, has been very busy with her international career and has, amongst others, performed as soloist in a concert with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra.

From a large number of applicants, 16 participants from all over the world will be chosen. It will be exciting to see, from where in the world we will find the winner of LMISC 2017.

We are very proud to be able to welcome LMISC to the beautiful Musikkens Hus (House of Music), which is located on Aalborg’s lively harbour front.

See you soon at the competition that, once again, will elevate Aalborg and the region into world renown.

We look forward to welcoming you!

A word from the founder, Poul Elming

I was, from 2007-2011, Musical Director of Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. During that time, I had an idea, that would become a large-scale project, for the City of Aalborg and for North Jutland.

Along with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra's current Musical Director, Jan Kvistborg and a dedicated and enthusiastic staff, we launched this large and demanding project.

The Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition

One of the world's greatest Wagnerian tenors ever, Lauritz Melchior, has given his name to the competition, which serves as a reminder of this unique singer that hailed from Denmark.

Richard Wagner's music is close to my heart. I have lived with his music for many years and it has taken me around the world - from the US to Japan, and from Norway to Australia. It has been a journey through a musical universe that cannot be compared with anything else. Therefore, it was my strong desire that Aalborg Symphony Orchestra should play this fantastic music, and that so many people would experience the greatness of Wagner’s works.

A competition of this format will attract the world's attention, and it is with great pride and pleasure, that we observed the winner in 2010, Allison Denise Oakes, has since made her debut, with great success, in the Wagner Festival at Bayreuth.

Let the adventure continue, so that more young talents come into the limelight, and that Aalborg will have a prominent place on the musical world map for the benefit of all the City’s inhabitants – both musically and in respect of tourism; thereby becoming economically beneficial.

I look forward to being a consultant for the third LMISC and wish all participants, the jury and the audience a fantastic journey into this musical universe.
